Mash is a young man who was born without so much as an ounce of magic in his blood. Enter the leading character, Mash Burnedead. The story is set in a magical world in which an individual’s position within society is defined by the power of and skill with magic. But a title like Mashle: Magic and Muscles comes around and takes a complete 180 that turns the genre on its head. Fairy Tail, My Little Witch Academia, Black Clover, etc. Magic in anime is a concept we’ve seen plenty of times throughout the years. The power system of “Negators” and “Uniques” is enough for someone to find something very obscure yet still have that shonen feel to it. Now you may be asking yourself why does Undead Unluck deserve an anime adaptation? Well, its simple, Undead Unluck is one of the most oddly, unique ongoing manga titles in Weekly Shonen Jump. Together, both Fuuko and Andy realize that their deepest wishes could finally come true. Then there’s Andy, a “Deadpool” esque-like character with an “undead” ability who lived almost 100 years and desires to die the best death possible. She is tormented by the fact that she cannot be touched by anyone due to her “unluck” ability, which brings bad luck to anyone she comes into contact with in the flesh. Following the completion of her favorite long-running girls’ manga series, Fuuko decides to commit suicide. The manga follows the main protagonist: Fuuko Izumo who has been living in seclusion for 10 years since an incident that left more than 200 people dead, including her parents, when she was 8 years old. This is what you should expect with Undead Unluck.

What happens when a young, suicidal girl who causes misfortune everywhere she goes and a reckless man who can’t die meet? Well, chaos and hilarity ensue. Vigilantes has concluded 126 chapters and with My Hero Academia already halfway into the final arc of the manga, we feel like an anime could help fill in the gaps. Fan-favorite characters such as Eraserhead, All Might, and Fat Gum do make appearances but the prequel does give more depth to the hero/vigilante world. The story follows the prequel’s three main characters: Koichi Haimawari (aka The Crawler), Kazuho Haneyama (aka Pop☆Step), and Iwao Oguro (aka Knuckleduster).

Though, Vigilantes takes on a much darker tone. Season 6 is confirmed to premiere this fall and for those that have read the manga around what S6 is focused on, things are about to take a hard left turn.
